Road Conditions in Vietnam
Roads in Vietnamese cities are particularly difficult in driving at rush hours. Collisions are very common. The major highways are generally in good condition and usually maintained but some of the flooding can cause large potholes in road . Some rural areas experience a lot of mud when it rains heavily so you must rent a SUV for the safe journey.
Vietnam recently was labeled with the highest road accident death rate in the world. The main reason comes from drunk drivers and motorbikes. Traffic laws here are not well enforced, which results in reckless and speedy driving everywhere.
Accidents can happen so be sure to have reliable travel insurance like ACS in the event you need coverage.
Minor roads, especially those in the countryside, are not always well lit.
If you’re driving on these roads for the first time avoid driving at night to reduce the risk of accidents.
Danger also comes from stray animals like street dogs, buffalos that lie in the middle of the road or dart across moving cars.
The drunk driver and motobikers can be particularly difficult to spot at dusk and you should keep a lookout for them at all times.
You shouldn’t run into any problems while driving in Vietnam if you stay aware at all times.
